Beginning pointe work is an important step in a classical dancer's development, a pointe shoe assessment with a health professional is a form of safe dance practice.
The main objective of a pointe shoe assessment is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the dancer's readiness for pointe shoes by assessing overall body strength, flexibility, control and alignment.
Dancing in pointe shoes is strenuous on the body, it's important that the dancer has been assessed so that if there is any component of the dancers body that is not ready, corrective exercise can be prescribed to help the dancer progress into pointe.
