WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates is a method of exercise that focuses on the synergy of controlled muscle contraction and breathing.
Pilates builds a strong core, increases strength and flexibility simultaneously, and improves posture, stability and alignment. It also emphasizes complete concentration on smooth, flowing movement, and proper breathing.

Pilates exercises train several muscle groups at once in smooth, continuous movements. By developing proper technique, you can re-train your body to move in safer, more efficient patterns of motion - invaluable for injury recovery, sports performance, re-connecting with your core after pregnancy, good posture and optimal health.

Starting Pilates

STARTING OR RE-IGNIGHTING AN EXERCISE PROGRAM:

Never trained before or you haven’t played sport or exercised for a few years? That’s ok, Pilates is for everyone! We will get you started at a pace and level that is right for your body. Please call us to discuss the solution that’s right for you.

BACK INJURIES DUE TO WORKING POSTURE:

Through the course of your working day, heavy lifting, twisting and turning and good old fashioned hard work, our backs tend to bear the brunt and grunt resulting in pain and injury. We can also sustain back injuries from sedentary jobs where we are in the car for extended periods of travel, or we are stuck behind the desk at the office.

Common Questions

I’VE BEEN ADVISED TO STRENGTHEN MY CORE:

The core consists of the deep abdominal muscles (transverse abdominus), with the muscles closest to the spine (multifidis) along with the pelvic floor muscles.
Pilates elongates and strengthens, improving muscle elasticity and joint mobility. A body with balanced strength and flexibility is less likely to be injured.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING MY PILATES SESSION?

Your first session will include a Q & A session where we will get to know you and your body. We will discuss any medical issues you may have that could affect your Pilates sessions. We will then work out an action plan based on your goals.  A postural screening will take place where we will identify any imbalances and areas for strengthening, as well as explain to you how your core works and activates. If required we will then prescribe you with any homework (breathing/stretching) that can take place before your next session.
